Mary Petrovich has always been a leader.
As a child, she helped care for her seven siblings after her father’s death. When she was told that her local country club didn't hire girl caddies, she persevered to overcome that barrier and racked up 215 loops in her first year. She became the CEO at AxleTech at 39, transforming the international company.
Now she’s a Co-Chair of The Promise Campaign, shaping the future of the Evans Scholars Program.
Mary calls the Evans Scholarship a “life-changer.” As an Evans Scholar at the University of Michigan, she was a rare female in the industrial engineering program. She excelled, attending Harvard Business School after graduation. In her latest phase, she’s an Operating Executive at The Carlyle Group, one of the largest private equity firms in the world.
Having spent her career bursting through barriers, she's still forging a path for young women to follow.
“When I mentor girls, I tell them not to think about it in terms of being the best woman,” she says. “Just think about being the best.”
